Reflections on Call Me by Your Name

Call Me by Your Name – the graphic novel is coming

An exciting piece of news for fans: Call Me by Your Name will soon be published as a graphic novel!

André Aciman’s world-famous novel – which was also adapted into an acclaimed film – will be reimagined in illustrations by Sarah Maxwell. The story gets a new face while preserving the atmosphere we all love so much: the glow of an Italian summer, the quiet of the villa, and the delicacy of Elio and Oliver’s relationship.

Publisher Faber plans the release for the summer of 2026. That feels fitting – just like the film, the graphic novel isn’t tied to a precise place or time, only to that eternal sense of “somewhere in Italy, one summer.”

What the creators say

André Aciman reflected on how special it is to see his characters come alive in another form:

“Call Me by Your Name began as a simple daydream in a villa in Italy overlooking the sea. I had no idea this fantasy would turn into a story, much less a novel. As I wrote it, I fell in love with Elio and Oliver. Sarah brings these characters and their world to life in a new way—it’s incredible. I am so thrilled we’re working together, and that more readers will be able to discover Call Me by Your Name in this beautiful graphic novel.”

Sarah Maxwell shared her excitement:

“I am thrilled to announce that I am adapting and illustrating the bestselling Call Me by Your Name! I’ve kept this project secret for the past year and can hardly believe it’s time to share the news. What a joy to be part of this queer love story.”

Louisa Joyner, publishing director at Faber, remembered her own first encounter with the novel:

“Like millions of Elio and Oliver fans around the world, I remember exactly where I was when I first read Call Me by Your Name; that breathtaking joy of being transported back into the world of first love. Twenty years on, Sarah Maxwell has drawn fresh magic from the alchemy of André Aciman’s original pages. This new graphic incarnation of an iconic novel is destined to flood the world once more with the endless summer of love.”

It’s truly joyful news: we will soon be able to experience Call Me by Your Name in an entirely new form. Perhaps we’ll discover new details, new shades of feeling along the way.

The summer of love is returning – this time on the pages of a graphic novel. Soon we’ll find ourselves once more in a sun-drenched Italian summer, now brought to life in colours and drawings.
